What pickup are for
A Hilux or a JAC T9 is hired for work rather than travel: site supervision, equipment that will not go in a boot, and roads that are being built rather than driven on.
Most go out on monthly contracts to construction, energy and survey work, where the vehicle is part of the job rather than a way of getting to it.
Worth knowing first
- Load bed, not boot
- An open bed carries what a boot cannot and protects nothing from weather or theft. If the load matters, say so and we will talk about covers.
- Four-wheel drive when you need it
- Not every pickup in the class is 4x4, and on a site in monsoon that is the difference between arriving and not. Each vehicle's specification says which it is.
- Long hire is cheaper
- This class is mostly taken for months rather than days, and the long-stay discounts are where the price actually lands. The fare calculator applies them from seven days.
